scannable pattern following the standard WIFI: URI format recognised by all modern smartphones.

Does a WiFi QR code expose my password?
The WiFi QR code encodes your password in plain text inside the QR pattern — it is not encrypted. Anyone who scans the code, or who decodes the QR image with a reader app, can see the password. For this reason, use a dedicated guest SSID rather than your private network password. Limit the guest network to internet access only, and rotate the password periodically. Regenerating the QR code with QRMint takes under ten seconds.
Which devices can scan a WiFi QR code?
All iPhones running iOS 11 or later can scan WiFi QR codes using the built-in Camera app — no third-party app required. Android devices running Android 10 or later support native WiFi QR scanning via the camera. Older Android devices may need a QR scanner app. In practice, any smartphone manufactured in the last five years supports WiFi QR codes natively.
What encryption type should I choose?
Select WPA/WPA2 for virtually all modern home and business networks — this is the default and most secure option. Choose WEP only if you have an older router that does not support WPA (WEP is now considered insecure and should be avoided if possible). Select No Password for open networks that require no authentication.
Can I use the API to generate WiFi QR codes programmatically?
Yes. Send the pre-formatted WiFi payload as the data parameter:

Does the WiFi QR code expire?
No. A WiFi QR code is static — it encodes the network credentials at the moment you generate it and never expires by itself. If you change your WiFi password, the old QR code will no longer work and you will need to generate a new one with the updated password. QRMint makes this trivial: update the password field and click Generate. Download the new image and replace the old one wherever it is displayed.
