Step-by-Step: Create a WiFi QR Code
From network credentials to a printed code in under sixty seconds.
A WiFi QR code stores your wireless network credentials — the SSID (network name), password, and encryption
type — inside a standard WIFI: URI that every modern smartphone recognises. When someone scans
the code with their phone camera, the operating system offers a one-tap prompt to join the network. No app needed,
no password to dictate, no chance of a typo. The entire connection happens in about two seconds.
1. Gather Your Network Details
Find your network name (SSID) and password. On most routers these are printed on a label on the underside of the device. If you have changed them, check your router admin panel or your device’s saved networks. Note the encryption type — virtually all modern networks use WPA/WPA2. If your network is open (no password), select "No Password" in the generator.
2. Enter Credentials in the Generator
Scroll to the playground above and make sure the WiFi type is selected. Type your SSID, password, and pick the
encryption method. The generator encodes these into the standard WiFi URI format automatically:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetwork;P:YourPassword;;.
3. Customise and Download
Choose brand colours, pick a module and eye shape, optionally add a logo or the dedicated WiFi frame template, then click Generate. Download as PNG for digital use or SVG for large-format print. Display the code wherever your visitors need it — table cards, wall signs, welcome booklets, or digital screens.
WiFi QR Code Use Cases
Every place where people need quick network access without the password shuffle.
Cafes & Coffee Shops
Print a branded WiFi QR code on table tents or the counter. Customers scan, connect, and settle in for longer visits — which means more orders. No staff member needs to spell out the password over the noise of the espresso machine. Update the password monthly and regenerate the code in seconds.
Offices & Meeting Rooms
Place a WiFi QR code in every conference room and at reception. Visiting clients and contractors connect immediately without an IT support call. Use a dedicated guest SSID with limited access for security, and rotate credentials quarterly with a fresh QR code each time.
Events & Conferences
Display a large WiFi QR code on projector screens, lanyards, or signage stands. Hundreds of attendees scan and connect simultaneously. Generate SVG output at any resolution for banner-quality print that stays sharp from business-card size to three-metre pull-up displays.
Hotels & Vacation Rentals
Include a WiFi QR code on the room welcome card or inside the Airbnb house manual. Guests scan on arrival instead of squinting at a tiny password label. Change credentials between stays and reprint the code in under a minute using QRMint.
Schools & Libraries
Post WiFi QR codes in classrooms, study halls, and reading rooms. Students and visitors connect without bothering staff. Use the WiFi frame template labelled "SCHOOL WIFI" or "LIBRARY WIFI" so the purpose is obvious at a glance.
Clinics & Waiting Rooms
Offer patients free WiFi via a QR code displayed at reception or in the waiting area. It reduces mobile data frustration and keeps visitors occupied. Pair with a simple "SCAN FOR WIFI" frame for maximum clarity in a medical setting.
Why Choose QRMint for WiFi QR Codes
The most capable free WiFi QR code generator online. Zero limits, zero cost.
Full Colour Customisation
Pick any foreground and background colours, or enable gradient mode with linear and radial options. Match your brand identity so the WiFi QR code looks like part of your interior design, not a generic black square.
Dedicated WiFi Frame
Apply the built-in "WiFi" frame template that adds a clear label beneath the code. Customise the text to say "FREE WIFI", "SCAN TO CONNECT", or any message up to 50 characters.
Embed Your Logo
Upload a PNG, JPG, or WebP logo and it will be centred inside the QR code. Use High error correction to keep the code scannable even with a large logo overlay. Perfect for branded venue signage.
Print-Ready Output
Export up to 2048×2048 px PNG or infinite-resolution SVG. Your WiFi QR code prints crisply on everything from a small table card to a full-size event banner.
WiFi QR Code FAQ
How do I create a WiFi QR code for free?
Scroll to the generator above, select the WiFi type, enter your network name (SSID) and password, choose your encryption type (WPA/WPA2 for most networks), and click Generate. Download the resulting PNG or SVG image. The entire process is free, requires no account, and works unlimited times.
Will the WiFi QR code work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. iPhones running iOS 11+ and Android devices running Android 10+ can scan WiFi QR codes natively using the built-in camera app. No third-party app is needed. Older devices may require a QR scanner app, but virtually all phones from the last five years support it out of the box.
Is my WiFi password safe in the QR code?
The password is encoded in plain text inside the QR pattern — anyone who scans or decodes the image can see it. For this reason, we recommend using a dedicated guest network with a separate SSID and rotating the password periodically. Regenerating a new QR code takes seconds in QRMint.
Can I generate WiFi QR codes with an API?
Yes. Use QRMint’s free REST API: send a GET request to
/api/v1/generate?data=WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourSSID;P:YourPass;;&size=512&format=png.
No API key required. Check the full API docs for
all styling parameters.
What happens if I change my WiFi password?
The old QR code will stop working because it contains the previous credentials. Simply return to QRMint, enter the new password, generate a fresh code, and replace the old image. The process takes under a minute and costs nothing.
Need other QR code types? QRMint also generates URL, vCard, Email, Phone, SMS, Event, Payment, and Location QR codes — all free, no signup, with the same full styling options.
