A business card QR code encodes your professional contact information in the vCard format — a widely adopted standard that virtually every smartphone operating system understands natively. When a contact scans the QR code on your business card using their phone’s built-in camera app, iOS and Android both recognise the vCard data and immediately prompt the user to save your details to their contacts app. No third-party app is needed, no internet connection is required at scan time, and the contact is saved with all the structured fields intact — name, mobile number, work email, company name, job title, and website URL — rather than as a jumbled text note. This is fundamentally more reliable than NFC business card alternatives, which require both devices to support NFC and for the reader to have the correct app installed. A printed QR code works with any smartphone camera manufactured in the last decade.

1. Prepare Your Contact Information

Before opening the generator, gather the contact details you want encoded. At minimum you need a first and last name — these are the only required fields in a vCard. Beyond that, every additional field increases the usefulness of the code. Your mobile phone number is typically the most important field after your name, because it lets the new contact call or message you directly from their phone’s contact card. Add your work email address so follow-up communication can start immediately. Include your company name and job title so the contact is saved with full context — when someone reviews their contacts six months later, they’ll know exactly who you are and why they have your details. Finally, add your website URL to drive traffic to your portfolio, company site, or LinkedIn profile. Keep phone numbers in international format (for example, +44 7700 900123) so the contact works correctly when saved on phones with any country setting. Avoid abbreviating your company name — spell it out exactly as it appears on your other professional materials to ensure consistency.

2. Enter Details and Customize

Scroll up to the Business Card QR Code Generator above. The Contact type is already selected, which activates the vCard input fields. Enter your first and last name in the name fields — these will appear as the contact name when saved on the recipient’s phone. Fill in your phone number, email address, company, job title, and website as applicable. Once your content is set, move on to the visual customisation. For professional business cards, the Corporate colour preset (deep navy foreground on a light background) tends to produce the most print-friendly results. If your brand uses specific colours, use the foreground and background colour pickers to match your exact brand hex codes. The Rounded module style gives a more modern, approachable look compared to classic square modules. For maximum brand impact on a premium business card, upload your company logo or personal monogram to embed in the centre of the QR code — use High error correction (30%) when doing so to ensure scannability with the logo overlay. Select a “Scan Me” frame template to make the purpose of the code immediately clear to anyone who sees the card.

3. Print on Business Cards

Click Generate Business Card QR Code and download the PNG at 1024×1024 px or 2048×2048 px for crisp print output, or export as SVG for infinite-resolution vector use in design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or Figma. When placing the QR code on a standard business card (85 × 55 mm), the code should be at least 15 × 15 mm printed size — this is the practical minimum for reliable scanning with a smartphone camera held at a normal reading distance. A 20×20 mm placement is more comfortable and is recommended. Most designers place the QR code on the back of the card in a corner or centred below the contact details. Ensure there is a clear white (or light) quiet zone of at least 4 modules wide around the entire QR code — do not let other design elements bleed into this border or scanning reliability will drop. If your card has a dark background, use a light background colour in the QR code itself, or print on a white patch. Always test scan the final printed card before ordering a full batch.
